MW4 Release Date

Quick Answer

Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026. Compare Campaign and DMZ early access, supported platforms, preload timing, and the Game Pass purchase limits.

The Modern Warfare 4 release date is Friday, October 23, 2026. The full game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will not be released for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

October 23 is the main launch date for the complete game, including Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ. Qualifying digital preorders can enter two modes earlier: Campaign Early Access begins October 16, while DMZ Early Access begins October 20. No separate Multiplayer early-access date has been established, so Multiplayer should be treated as part of the October 23 full release.

As of October 20, Campaign Early Access has already begun, DMZ Early Access is scheduled to begin on that date, and the full launch remains three days away. Early-access availability can still vary with region, platform timing, outages, and account eligibility.

The Campaign and DMZ dates are separate benefits. Reaching October 20 does not mean Multiplayer has launched early, and it does not turn the early-access period into the full release. Players waiting for the standard launch should continue to use October 23 as their date.

Campaign Early Access begins October 16

Campaign Early Access started one week before the full release. It is included with qualifying digital preorders of both the Standard and Vault editions. The benefit gives eligible players access to the single-player Campaign before October 23; it does not provide an earlier Multiplayer launch.

The Campaign contains sixteen missions and follows two connected fronts. Private Park Hyun Jun and other young South Korean soldiers fight through an invasion on the Korean Peninsula, while Captain Price conducts an off-book operation that expands the conflict beyond Korea. The announced locations include Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai.

Campaign Early Access continues until the full launch on October 23. If the Campaign does not unlock for an expected preorder, check that the purchase is a qualifying digital edition on the account being used to play. The early-access terms also allow for outages, timezone differences, and changes to platform availability or start timing.

campaign early access in Modern Warfare 4

Campaign has a separate early-access window beginning October 16.

Campaign Early Access is not a separate edition of the game. Progressing through it simply gives an eligible player time with the Campaign before the remaining launch access arrives. A preorder made through an unsupported offer should not be assumed to include the benefit merely because it was placed before release day.

DMZ Early Access begins October 20

DMZ Early Access begins on October 20 for qualifying digital preorders. This is a different entitlement from Campaign Early Access and starts four days later. The date should not be interpreted as a confirmed simultaneous worldwide unlock hour, because local timing and platform availability may differ.

DMZ is the extraction mode included with Modern Warfare 4. Players deploy alone or with a squad into a changing combat zone, pursue objectives, collect equipment, and decide when to attempt an extraction. The early-access date applies specifically to this mode; it does not move Multiplayer ahead of October 23.

dmz early access in Modern Warfare 4

DMZ Early Access begins October 20 for qualifying digital preorders.

If Campaign access works but DMZ does not appear immediately on October 20, that does not automatically mean the preorder is missing its benefit. First confirm the edition and account entitlement, then check the local platform listing and service status. The launch terms explicitly leave room for outages and applicable timezone differences.

What becomes available on October 23

October 23 is the full-game release date. Players purchasing Modern Warfare 4 on a supported platform receive the main package built around Campaign, competitive Multiplayer, and DMZ.

Campaign access becomes part of the normal release rather than an early-access benefit. Multiplayer launches with 12 new core 6v6 maps, dedicated Gunfight maps, and large-scale maps. DMZ also moves beyond its preorder access window into the full launch period. Details about individual modes can continue to change through updates, but their shared launch date remains October 23.

multiplayer launch in Modern Warfare 4

The general Multiplayer launch is October 23.

Season 1 is planned to arrive shortly after launch, not necessarily on October 23. Its exact date should not be inferred from the full-game release. The later season will begin the first major period of connected Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone content.

Supported launch platforms

Modern Warfare 4 is a current-generation release. Before buying, make sure the selected edition matches both the hardware and the intended PC storefront.

PlatformOctober 23 availabilityPurchase detail
PlayStation 5YesAvailable as a PS5 release; there is no PS4 version
Xbox Series X|SYesAvailable for current Xbox consoles; there is no Xbox One version
PCYesAvailable through Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC
Nintendo Switch 2YesLaunches on the same October 23 date
PlayStation 4NoNo version is planned for this platform
Xbox OneNoNo version is planned for this platform

The presence of older Call of Duty games on PS4 or Xbox One does not imply that Modern Warfare 4 supports those systems. The same caution applies to Warzone: changes to older-console Warzone support are connected to Season 1 and should not be confused with the Modern Warfare 4 launch-platform list.

On PC, the storefront choice matters for ownership and installation. Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC are supported, but a purchase on one storefront should not be treated as ownership on every other PC storefront. Xbox Play Anywhere applies to the relevant Xbox purchase path, allowing that purchase to be used on Xbox console and Xbox on PC.

Release time and timezone limits

October 23 is confirmed, but there is no verified universal unlock hour that can safely be applied to every platform and region. The PC launch information states that the full PC game releases at midnight local time. That wording is specific to PC and should not be copied into a global console schedule.

Platform listings can display times in different formats or timezones. Those differences do not necessarily change the release date; they may reflect regional storefront configuration, a local midnight rollout, or a platform-specific unlock. The practical rule is to use the countdown or release time shown by the store account that owns the game.

For release night, check all four of these details:

  1. Confirm that the storefront region matches the account and intended play location.
  2. Check whether the displayed time is local time, Pacific Time, or UTC before converting it.
  3. Confirm whether the countdown refers to Campaign Early Access, DMZ Early Access, or the October 23 full game.
  4. Allow for the stated possibility of outages or a platform-specific start-date adjustment.

PC players can preload ahead of release. PC preloading began October 15 at 9 AM PT, but completing the download does not bypass the October 23 full-game unlock. A preload only reduces the amount of data that may need to be downloaded when access becomes available.

Digital preorder eligibility

Both the Standard and Vault digital editions list Campaign Early Access beginning October 16 and DMZ Early Access beginning October 20. The Vault Edition includes additional content, but buying it is not required solely to receive the two listed early-access windows.

The important condition is that the purchase must qualify as a digital preorder on the selected platform. Do not assume that every physical reservation, third-party listing, account region, or late code redemption carries the same entitlement. The platform account used to purchase or redeem the game should be the first place to verify ownership.

Early access also does not guarantee uninterrupted play. Server outages, timezone differences, and platform changes remain possible. These conditions matter most on the first day of each access window, when a calendar date may begin before the corresponding local service has enabled entry.

Players who are not interested in early access can wait for October 23 without losing any of the three main modes. The early dates change when eligible preorder customers can enter Campaign and DMZ; they do not create exclusive versions of those modes.

Game Pass availability at launch

Modern Warfare 4 is a standalone purchase on October 23. It is not included with Game Pass at launch, even though several earlier Call of Duty releases are available through the subscription. Players on Xbox or Xbox on PC must buy Modern Warfare 4 separately if they want to play at release.

Game Pass inclusion is planned for Holiday 2027. That is a future availability window, not a day-one benefit and not an exact calendar date. Subscription plans, availability, and terms may change before that window arrives.

Cloud play does not make the game part of the Game Pass catalog. The Xbox cloud option requires ownership of Modern Warfare 4 as well as a compatible Game Pass subscription. A cloud-gaming label therefore should not be read as confirmation that the base game is included in the subscription.

Launch preparation checklist

A few checks can prevent the most common release-day access problems without requiring you to buy a more expensive edition.

  1. Verify the game identity. This page covers Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the 2026 Infinity Ward-led release. It is not Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 2007, Modern Warfare from 2019, Modern Warfare II from 2022, or Modern Warfare III from 2023.
  2. Use supported hardware. Choose PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Nintendo Switch 2. Do not buy an older-console listing expecting a PS4 or Xbox One version.
  3. Check the access stage. Campaign Early Access began October 16, DMZ Early Access begins October 20, and the full game releases October 23. Multiplayer has no separately established early-access date.
  4. Confirm the correct account. The purchasing platform account and associated Activision account should be the ones used to launch the game. Account or entitlement mismatches can make an eligible preorder appear unavailable.
  5. Finish the preload where offered. PC preload began October 15 at 9 AM PT. Keep additional space available because mandatory updates may require more storage beyond the initial installation.
  6. Prepare a compatible PC. The launch requirements call for an SSD with 115 GB available, and PC play requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. These checks should be completed before the unlock window rather than during launch night.
  7. Read the local storefront countdown. It is more useful for an exact unlock hour than converting a time displayed for another platform or region.
  8. Separate purchase access from subscription access. Game Pass does not include the game at launch, so an active subscription by itself is not enough to enter Modern Warfare 4 on October 23.
